Hello, I work as an integrative counsellor, having knowledge of the main approaches used in counselling and psychotherapy, applying what would work for you. I specialise in relationship and bereavement issues
providing counselling to individuals and couples.
I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) working in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. My private practice office is in Prittlewell, Southend. I also work at bereavement and relationship charitable organisations.
I offer a 30 minute free telephone consultation
to see if this is right for you, and then if you decide this is for you we can arrange an initial session.
I am friendly, non-judgemental and approachable and am able to offer counselling in a safe, welcoming environment. I am passionate in helping you through life’s many obstacles and stresses. Sometimes the first contact can be difficult, as disclosing your innermost thoughts can be emotionally challenging, and I hope that I can make this journey a time of enlightenment and a rewarding one for you.Often we do not give ourselves enough time to find our own identity, and understand what is working well or not so well for ourselves.Developing awareness of our own thoughts and feelings can be an important first stage in being able to confront and then to deal with them in a meaningful way. Counselling allows you to be able to look at experiences from the past and the present to help understand where you are now, and to uncover and resolve any issues allowing for growth and fulfilment.
I would be happy to hear from you whether that be by phoning me, texting, emailing or sending a message on my Facebook page Wright Counselling.

Main Approaches Adopted in my Counselling Practice
I adhere to the BACP code of practice, available online at
www.bacp.co.uk.
My qualifications include Relationship and Couple Counselling, Level 4 and further Practitioners Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. By working in an integrative way, I draw upon numerous approaches to address your needs as an individual.
The different theories to counselling I use are:
- CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
- Person Centred Counselling
- TA (Transactional Analysis)
- Psychodynamic
- Existentialism
- Solution Focused Therapy
CBT
which is the main approach used in the NHS to help you identify that your thoughts, feelings, and actions are related. A small changes in one of these areas will help alter your cycle and move you towards the outcome you want. These three elements work together like the cogs of an intricate clock, when one is changed a entirely new cycle may emerge. To be able to make effective positive changes in our mental wellbeing, it is essential to reflect upon the problematic elements which may be causing the development of a 'vicious cycle'. Counselling helps you to be able to explore the patterns that you are experiencing which you are not finding helpful and to be able to support and find new more helpful meaningful ways forward. For example, if you are experiencing stress problems then look at the different cogs involved with what contributes to your stress. Looking at each element and trying to make changes will alter your cycle and help you to move in the direction you want to.
Person Centred Counselling places emphasis upon your self-perception rather than a counsellor's interpretation of your unconscious thoughts or ideas. This process is accessible to us all and provides you with the tools to realise your full potential and become your true self, known as 'self-actualisation'.
TA (Transactional Analysis) looks at social relationships in terms of 'ego states' (the sets of behaviours, thoughts, and feelings which make up our personality). This helps us to be more conscious of our thoughts and behaviours, allowing us to form more constructive relationships with those around us. The goal of TA is to help you gain and maintain autonomy by strengthening your Adult ego state. In therapy we will establish a contract that outlines your desired outcome working together to be able to achieve this.
Psychodynamic Counselling aims to help you understand long-standing conflicts from the past to grow your self-awareness. By exploring the impact of unconscious mental processes on your personal life, we will identify patterns of damaging or unwanted personal behaviour. Counselling provides a safe environment in which to explore and resolve these core issues and break down the painful feelings and memories which the conscious mind struggles to process.
Existentialism is a philosophical form of counselling which helps look at the situation of a person's life in terms of certain challenges of the human condition. This approach highlights our capabilities and encourages us to take responsibility for our successes and decisions. Our difficulties are seen in terms of our inner conflict exploring the present rather than the past. Our conflicts can include freedom and personal responsibility, existential isolation, meaningless and death.
Solution Focused Therapy or Brief Therapy is an approach working on solution-building rather than problem-solving.The focus is mainly on exploring an individual's current resources and future hopes. There is exploration on the exceptions to the problem and looking at problems in terms of 'instead of' to help with more imaginative and positive viewpoints. Thinking in terms of the problem not existing can be liberating and empowering.
